In honor of Vox's launch tomorrow, what's your favorite feature or aspect of Vox?
I like a lot of things about Vox. I like the privacy settings, the cool wysiwyg editor, fun templates, and privacy settings (I could go on...). However, I must say that I like "Question of the Day" the best. This way I have always something to post. Like right now...
How many computers do you have in your house?
Submitted by Foomper.
I just have a single computer; a 12" iBook G4. I also have a Gamecube, but that doesn't really count as a computer.
... was to actually have some time off. I've been working 8+ hours a day the first two days of my Autumn break. Besides checking book reports, grading idiom tests, and working on my lesson plans, I also have to do a lot of work for the ILS (who will hopefully give me my Master of Education in a few months). That said, some of the things I'm working on are quite fun. I'm developing a lesson series on "Fast Food Culture", that will be all about comparing eating habits, cultural differences between the US, Great Britain, and the Netherlands. I'm also looking for new strategies to deal with one of my tougher classes, and I'm also working on quite an intensive speaking module. That's all quite interesting, but reading over 60 book reports isn't quite as much fun.
In theory I like reading book reports, because I'm interested in what the students think about the books they read. However, in reality you are pretty much done with that after you've read book reports for 3 hours. I have now decided to check 5 book reports in a row, and then go and do something else. That seems like a much more sensible way to go about things.
Things are pretty crazy right now, and they don't seem to be slowing down. After the break there'll be one more week of classes and the we have the test week right after that. I'm so looking forward to those 32 oral exams and grading 5 tests...
Do you play any musical instruments?
Yes! I play guitar and teeny-tiny bit of piano. Haven't practiced much lately, way too busy!
What movie can you quote by heart?
Submitted by clamhead.
I can quote a lot of films by heart, let me make a list:
- Every silent film
- Gladiator
- Silence of the Lambs
- Philadelphia
- Empire Strikes Back
- Casablanca
- The LoTR-trilogy
I can also quote quite a few Buffy episodes, but that doesn't count.
How well do you know your next-door neighbors?
Who?!?
What's your morning beverage of choice? Coffee, tea, juice? Homemade or store-bought?
I like all three, but I need coffee the most. Tea will do if there's no coffee. I usually make at least one cup of coffee before I go to work. Well, if you consider putting a pad in your Senseo machine to be "making" coffee that is.
What are your three favorite album covers of all-time? Any honorable mentions?
Question submitted by Tamara.
This question is impossible! Let me offer three album covers that I really like:
I love covers that seem to tell a story. It could stand on its own in a museum, but what I love is that this legendary cover doesn't eclipse the (also legendary) album.
Yes, I like this better than the Sgt. Peppers cover. That cover is also great, but I love the absolute minimalist aesthetic of this cover. The typography also adds to the elegance of the cover, and I love that BEATLES is written in capital letters.
I'm a big fan of jazz photography and this has always been one of my photographs. I feel this really captures Trane's creative genius, and again this is reflected in the quality of the album. I think that's really important.
