We're going meta today: What questions would you'd like to see become QoTDs?
- What is your secret fear?
- What is your favorite cartoon/comic-character? Why?
- Is there a song that you could listen to every single day? What is it?
I have been blogging for two years now, and I've noticed that in that time I've written very little about myself. My weblog tells a lot about my taste, the things I like and dislike, but is not so much a personal narrative, but rather a trail of loosely related bits and pieces. There's a reason I called it Jeroen's Repository of Miscellaneous Tidbits.
The notion of a weblog as an online diary has always appealed to me, but at the same time I have always been rather hesitant to throw too many personal details online. I'm especially careful now that I'm in the process of becoming an English teacher. There are things you just don't want your students to know! Still there's an urge to write about life and the things that happen around me. Some may call this narcissistic, but I beg to differ. It's more about sharing, reflecting, and documenting than it is about self-importance.
Vox offers me a platform to keep a diary where I get to decide who reads what. I think that some of the reasons that Vox just works are the easy privacy settings and the neighbourhood-aspect. But more important is the sense that Vox invites and entices you to use it. It's fun! It is so easy to add books, audio, and photos that it makes the experience very enjoyable. For some reason I feel more motivated to add assets to Vox than I ever did to my Typepad blog (and Typepad's Typelist functionality must have been an inspiration for Vox). Oh, and the themes are very nice. I'll probably be switching themes three times a week.
I don't really know yet what this space will become but it is safe to assume that it will be more about writing than it will be about linking. I'm hoping to strike a good balance between the Vox and the Typepad blog. Let's see how it will work out.
PS: I really do need a better title for this weblog..
